The Oseberg ship burial is located near Tønsberg in the district of Vestfold, Norway. It was excavated in 1904-1905. The burial has been dated to AD 834. The excavated ship and many of the burial goods are on display in the Viking Ship Museum at Bygdøy just west of Oslo.

The textile fragments from Oseberg included woolen and silk fabrics, and remains of tapestries. There were several examples of silk appliqué and silk embroidery, which were worked using satin stitch, split stitch, stem stitch, and couching. See also a general entry on Viking embroideries.
