This one-day course is intended for beginners and those interested in weave identification for work and for their development of weaving skills. The course looks at the identification of tabby, twill, damask, brocade, and velvet weaves families, as well as forms such as those with floats, supplementary wefts, and the compound weaves. No knowledge of weaving is required. There is a strong practical element, and participants are encouraged to explore and understand in a hands-on manner various weaving techniques. The necessary equipment, including weaving frames, and yarns will be provided.
Participants will be seated in the spacious workroom of the TRC, to guarantee the one and a half metre distance. Subject to national guidelines, participants will also be wearing face masks. You may bring your own, but masks are also made available by the TRC. The TRC attendance protocol will apply.
The lecturer of this workshop is Dr Gillian Vogelsang-Eastwood, director of the TRC.
