Back basting is a method of appliqué that makes needle turn easier because of the way the fabric is temporarily basted to the background. The basting stitches essentially score and perforate the appliqué fabric and so encourage it to turn exactly on the line that you have marked.
In this workshop we will first practise the method on a simple, basic shape and then cover any questions along with some special situations in appliqué. Then you will be ready to move on to a more complex pattern. The workshop will be given by Beverley Bennett, one of the two curators of the current American Quilts exhibition.
