Horsehair

Horsehair is sometimes used in needlepoint lace.

Horsehairs, usually dark in colour in contrast to the white embroidery thread, are used in order to construct the characteristic picots (tiny loops) in the fillings or around the designs and to keep them of even size. When the loop is finished, the horsehair can easily be withdrawn.
