She painted various murals at religious and charitable institutions in Edinburgh (as for instance at the Catholic Apostolic Church). She also made jewellery, and was an accomplished embroiderer. One of her most famous embroideries is a series of four entitled The Progress of a Soul.
In 1920 she was the first woman to be admitted as a member to the Royal Scottish Academy.
