Buratto Cloth

Buratto cloth is named after buratto, which is an Italian word for a sieve or sifter.

Buratto cloth was made from silk or linen and woven with a single warp and a double weft to produce a gauze-like material with a square mesh. This ground material was used to produce buratto embroidery, which is a type of filet work that has been made in Italy and elsewhere since the medieval period.
