Spontaneous Embroidery

Spontaneous embroidery is a term especially used for various types of local Egyptian embroidery that are influenced by the Wissa Wassef principles of design.

This type of embroidery began to appear from the 1960's onwards. The designs are generally of local scenes and are not worked out in detail before work commences.

See also the TRC Needles entry on Wissa Wassef embroidery.
