Point de ....

In Europe, until the early twentieth century, French terminology for lace and embroidery was very wide-spread.

As a result, virtually all stitch names associated with these techniques used to have the prefix ‘Point.’ This practice has become largely abandoned outside of France, unless with respect to some specific terms for lace and lace making, such as point de gaze or point de neige.
