The attached group of embroidery designs comes from Norway and reflects a precise arrangement of shapes and patterns. There is a strong geometric element to these designs as well as an understanding of positive and negative space. The colours used for these and comparable embroideries reflect a relatively limited range of hues: blue, red, orange and black. The older versions are worked in wool on a linen ground, while more modern examples tend to be wool or cotton on a cotton ground.
