The TRC in Leiden is currently publishing a series of embroidery charts. Please click here for more charts and information. They are free to use, so enjoy! If you click on the illustrations below, you are directed to a PDF file, much easier to use, to copy, print and/or enlarge.

The attached group of embroidery designs comes from Norway and reflects a precise arrangement of shapes and patterns. There is a strong geometric element to these designs as well as an understanding of positive and negative space. The colours used for these and comparable embroideries reflect a relatively limited range of hues: blue, red, orange and black. The older versions are worked in wool on a linen ground, while more modern examples tend to be wool or cotton on a cotton ground.
