A good example of straw being used for weaving is depicted in a famous painting by Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1526/27-1593), now in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. It is one of of a series of four works illustrating the four seasons. This particular painting, illustrating the summer, shows a figure entirely made up of the plants, flowers and fruit of the season. His shirt or gown is woven of straw, with worked into it the name of the artist and the year of the painting.
