Couched Running Stitch

The couched running stitch is a type of composite stitch.

A line of long running stitches are worked on the ground material and then a second, much smaller stitch is used to catch down the running stitch to the ground material. The thread used for the second stitch is often in a contrasting colour. This type of stitch is used, for instance, for some examples of Siwa oasis embroidery from Egypt.
