This engraving by the German craftsman, Elias Porzelius (1662-1722), dates to 1689. It is called the Embroidery Lessons, or the Embroidery School. It shows a group of women and girls engaged in various forms of embroidery.

The two girls at the back are embroidering at a wooden frame using needles; the teacher and guardian (mother?) at the front are standing over a seated lttle girl working at a wooden embroidery frame. The seated woman at the far right is making bobbin lace

Against the wall at the back is a length of material, perhaps three-dimensional, with pockets or compartments for holding (needlework?) objects.
