Jean Magoulet was Brodeur Ordinaire de la Reine in Paris, from December 1677. Illustrated here is an etched and engraved trade card from c. 1690 (25.5 x 21.4 cm). The text below the design tells that Jean Magoulet provided gold, silver and silk embroideries for garments and furnishings.

Waddesdon Manor, at Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, UK, houses a collection of more than 15000 works of art and other objects, collected by the Rothschild family. The collection is especially famous for its eighteenth century French porcelain and textiles.

The National Army Museum in Chelsea, London, houses a shabraque (saddle blanket) that was reputedly acquired on 7th April 1842 during a British sortie against Afghan troops outside of Jalalabad, eastern Afghanistan, at the end of the First Anglo-Afghan War (1838-1842). The saddle cloth was allegedly taken by Captain (later Major) James Henry Fenwick of the 13th (1st Somersetshire) Regiment of Foot.

The Victoria and Albert Museum in London houses an exquisitely decorated mitre that (most probably) derives from Italy and was made in the first half of the sixteenth century. It is decorated with gold and silk thread using chain stitch, long and short stitch, and satin stitch. The mitre is made of silk satin with linen lining and paper stiffening.

The four Christian evangelists are often represented in Christian art, including embroidery, by symbols.

A painting by Jacob de Punder (Jacques de Poindre; 1527-1570) made in Mechelen, Belgium, in 1563 bears a representation of St Nicolas. The painting, which measures 85.5 x 57.5 cm, was housed in the Abbey of Grimbergen, Brabant, Belgium, until the end of the eighteenth century. In 1964 it was acquired by the Walters Art Museum, Baltimore, USA. 

The Jains in Indian Gujarat used to protect their sacred texts with satin or velvet covers that were generally embroidered with metal and silk threads. The Victoria and Albert Museum in London houses an example that dates from the late nineteenth century. It is made of red satin with metal thread embroidery and sequins. It measures 16 x 29.2 cm.
